WHEN IN KOREA

"When in KOREA"

Korea is well-known in their music and K-dramas especially in my country "Philippines"
After the hit of PSY for his album "Gangnam style" and hit songs of "K-POP girls" people around Asia were surprised to discover how talented Koreans are and their global audience are exploding across the world.

But that's not the reason why we chose Korea for this month vacation...
It is Eric's second time in this country which he travelled to Incheon for business trip few months back while me is my first time. We chose Busan because its a large port city in South Korea and is known for its beaches, mountains and temples.
We love history and nature...that's it!

Well, this trip is actually a treat to ourselves from busy schedules we had from the past few months and in addition to that...we are celebrating our 2nd year of togetherness! Cheers!

From the airport, we travel to reach our hotel by train at the Busy City of Haeundae which we picked the right spot where the Big waves and white sand is the nicest view from our lodge.

From Japan, by using PEACH, the only airline we know that is flying from OSAKA to Korea is just an hour distance by air.
Train is very convenient as it has the service from the airport to our hotel.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
This Temple is situated on the coast of the north-eastern portion of Busan. This superb attraction offers visitors the rare find of a temple along the shore line; most temples in Korea are located in the mountains. Haedong Yonggungsa Temple was first built in 1376 by the great Buddhist teacher known as Naong during the Goryeo Dynasty. Haesu Gwaneum Daebul (Seawater Great Goddess Buddha), Daeungjeon Main Sanctuary, Yongwangdang Shrine, Gulbeop Buddhist Sanctum (enclosed in a cave), and a three-story pagoda with four lions can all be seen looking out over the ocean.
On the right-hand side, inside the a cave, is a uniquely designed Buddhist sanctum, while situated just in front of the main sanctuary is a three-story pagoda with four lions. The four lions are symbolizing joy, anger, sadness, and happiness. Other special sites at the temple are the 108 stairs and stone lanterns lining the rocky landscape.

KOREAN FOOD

We really love their food.
Their noodles - spicy and full of seafood, vegetables and other ingredients that is adding different spice on it.
There are viands as well that you can add as a topping.
Dumplings tastes good too! We find it similar to chinese dumplings.
Since We are food lovers, we'd like to taste a different kind so we went to the closest market and observe how they cook meal and serve to people.
Interesting and not so expensive.
We also tried their Meat based dishes while cooking it on a metal plate over charcoal at the center of the table.

  • Bulgogi (불고기): thinly sliced or shredded beef marinated in soy saucesesame oil, garlic, sugar, green onions and black pepper, cooked on a grill (sometimes at the table). Bulgogi literally means "fire meat". Variations include pork (Dweji bulgogi), chicken (Dak bulgogi), or squid (Ojingeo bulgogi).
  • Galbi (갈비): pork or beef ribs, cooked on a metal plate over charcoal in the centre of the table. The meat is sliced thicker than bulgogi. It is often called "Korean BBQ", and can be seasoned or unseasoned.
  • Samgyeopsal (삼겹살): Unseasoned pork belly, served in the same fashion as galbi. Sometimes cooked on a grill with kimchee troughs at either side. Commonly grilled with garlic and onions, dipped in ssamjjang and wrapped in lettuce leaves.

HAEUNDAE BEACH

On a brief 3 day stay in Busan, we were overwhelmed with the City because it is clean and not so traffic.
After visiting their famous temple nearby our place, and eating authentic korean foods, the most interesting part of this place is their wide Beach.
You will be amazed by the big waves and white cream sand, with the big boats passing by.
The minute we came up from the metro, the streets and the sky is wide open and active till midnight up. The main street leading to the beach was lined with fun stores and street foods.
There were street musicians and performers too.
It was perfect... perfect for a family trip and for a couple like us who wants to travel in a not so expensive way.
